Elizabeth Carmel is a fine art professional photographer specializing in unique, expressive landscapes and waterscapes. I really like that her photographs are a mix of dramatic, vivid colors, and artistic touches of the outdoors. The characteristics of her photos include bright, colorful, fall-time scenes. They are almost all in the outdoors, especially her Autumn portfolio. She takes landscape photos because she believes that, “…the Earth’s beauty has the power to help nourish and unify us, both on a personal and global level.”, Elizabeth Carmel. She likes to take pictures of the outdoors because it helps bring people together and makes her grateful for everything that she has. I feel that the overall feel of her photography is relaxing, and calm. I love the outdoors and Fall is my favorite season, so I love her work that she does.
Jim Brandenburg is an environmentalist and a nature photographer. His career involved over 10 years as a photojournalist and over 30 years as a photographer for National Geographic. The physical characteristics of Jim's photos include the lighting, color, time of day, and scenic views. The two subjects that Jim likes to photograph are nature and animals. He started young working for a newspaper, then was a freelancer for National Geographic until they hired him. His expertise was in landscapes, animals, and the combination of both. Jim once took over 300 rolls of film, only able to use a handful. From there on, he decided to limit himself to take one photograph per day, which is how he created his book, Chased by the Light. Jim also created “White Wolf”, a book about a wolf species that which fear of man has not been yet instilled upon. I feel that his photos are festive and relaxing. They really get to show the beauty of not only nature as in forests and lakes, but nature as in the animals that live in it. I also feel that some of his photos are dramatic that really give a feel for what it is like to be there at that moment.
Lee Friedlander is an American photographer and artist. In the 1960s and 70s he became the photographer of urban social landscape, resulting in many of his photos being storefront windows, structures framed by fences, posters, and street signs. He had a very iconic way of showing the backbones of America. The physical characteristics of his photos, shown below, taken from the inside of his car, give a perspective of the history of America throughout his road trip. All his photos are in black and white. The subject he shows is how America started and how it used to be. It also shows the way we modernize cities today. His backroad road trip led him to find many great places that displayed what life was like a number of years ago. I feel like his overall style is cool and interesting. I also feel that the photography is the culture of the USA and how it evolved over the years.
